Becoming a GCU signatory is simple, with a streamlined self-onboarding process designed to get you started quickly and efficiently.
What It Means to Be a GCU Signatory
As a GCU signatory, you’ll take on several key responsibilities to ensure smooth operations and compliance:
- Annual Contribution: Pay an annual fee set by the GCU Joint Committee.
- Data Accuracy: Use the GCU Broker to maintain up-to-date mandatory contractual information. A scoring system will guide you in ensuring data completeness.

GCU Annual Fees
The GCU contribution consists of a fixed annual fee plus a variable charge calculated based on the size of your wagon fleet. For reference:

The annual contribution is billed once per year. If you join partway through the year, the full annual fee will still apply.
Step-by-Step Onboarding
Before you begin, gather the following information to complete the process without interruptions:
- For EU-based organizations: RIES VAT number
- Organization code: RICS code (apply via UIC RICS)
- For Railway Undertakings: Valid Safety Certificate Number
- For Wagon Keepers: Valid VKM (Vehicle Keeper Marking) and a list of wagon numbers in your fleet

Onboarding steps:
- Create a GCU Broker Account: Register your user account and confirm your email.
- Enter Organization Details: Provide essential information about your business.
- Set Up Billing Information: Ensure accurate details for annual invoicing.
- Upload Documentation: Submit your signed application form and wagon list (for Wagon Keepers only).
- Submit Your Application: Send in your application for review.
Once submitted, your application will be verified. If all information is accurate and complete, your membership will be activated, and your organization will be included in the official list of signatories at the next publication date (as outlined in Article 2.4). You’ll receive an invoice for the current year shortly thereafter.
